Our new favorite bed time routine to combat sensitivity is Barrier defense booster topped with our french lavender Sound Sleep Cocoon.

Is your skin feeling sensitive? Ph, temperature, friction, product use, and genetics can all play an important role with sensitive and sensitized skin. In short we need to keep a diet high in Omega-3 for skin and hair health, reduce stress, and use the correct products for our skin type.

Why use a pH balanced cleanser? Any skin type can experience sensitivity if one is using a cleanser that is NOT pH balanced. A pH balanced cleanser keeps lipid barrier intact with out stripping or sensitizing the skin. Skin that is already experienced sensitivity, should use a specific cleanser prescribed by Sun Spa’s Dermalogica Expert skin therapist (Julie or Beth) for their skin condition.

Neurogensic Inflammation- Calcitonin gene related peptides are released from sensory nerve endings and cause vasdiallation which lead to sensations of pain and discomfort. These are released as part of the stress response. How do we reduce stress- meditation, massage therapy, Dermalogica touch therapy treatments, which are included with Sun Spa’s Signature Dermalogica facials.

Avoid Mineral oils- Mineral oils are pore clogging (comedogenic oils) that slow down our natural barrier lipid production. Mineral oils stop lamellar grannuals from descumation, leading to a build up of dead skin and a lack luster appearance.

Reinforce your skins barrier to reduce nerve re-activeness. Daily solutions for skin tolerance include:

Ultra Calming Mist- A soothing, hydrating mist to calm redness and sensitivity. Used post-cleanse, this lightweight mist helps create a shield against environmental assaults, and synergistically relieves and restores skin while fighting future flare-ups. Followed by either Ultra Calming serum concentrate-featuring acytel tetrapeptide 15 (water based for more oily skin). Or, Barrier defense booster- a lipid based booster which has a triple defense complex, to reduce redness, relieve dryness and fight future irritation.

Use the right SPF- sensitive skin types should be using a zinc or titanium dioxide based SPF (aka Physical sunscreen). Chemical sunscreens feel more light weight but release heat as they absorb UV. And heat is NOT good for red, inflamed or sensitive skin types!

We’ve all been there—stretching into our downward dogs only to catch a glimpse of our sad gym hairstyles in the studio’s mirror. It can be disheartening and not to mention a total distraction when you should be focusing on balancing and breathing. Keep your mind focused by opting for a cute (and easy) style next time you hit the gym. Whether it’s a simple side braid or an over-the-top topknot, your gym hairstyle should look as good as you feel. Don’t know where to start? Here are seven looks to add to your gym hair roster.

1. THE DRAMATIC PONYTAIL

Call us crazy, but sometimes our everyday ponytail just doesn’t cut it. Give your pony an unexpected twist by adding a braid. Start by applying a volumizing spray throughout your ends to create texture and give your strands some extra grip. From there, tease the crown (the top) section of your hair for added height. Next, take a two-inch section of hair and begin braiding from your hairline to the ends. Secure the braid with a small elastic. Lastly, gather everything into a ponytail and secure with another elastic. This ponytail not only looks great but helps to keep all of your hair out of your face so you can really focus on your workout.

Voila – a perfect braided ponytail.

2. THE ACCESSORIZED TOPKNOT

We’re not going to lie – topknots are the OG gym hairstyle, however, you can spice them up by getting creative with your bobby pins. Whether it’s a star, a triangle or fun emoji, bobby pins are a creative way to add some visual interest to your gym hairstyle.

3. THE ROPE BRAID

Short on time? Try a quick and easy rope braid. Start by pulling your hair into a sleek ponytail and securing your ends with an elastic. From there, take your ends, divide them into two sections and twist those sections around one another until you run out of hair! It’s that easy. Secure with an elastic and finish with a high-hold hairspray to smooth any flyaways.

Using Twilight Teeth is a fantastic way to whiten your teeth in the salon or at home. To help keep your teeth white between applications, you should try adding some of  the following foods to you diet.

Pineapples contain an enzyme called bromelain. This enzyme can naturally remove stains from your teeth by separating plaque from the surface of the tooth (or disrupting the proteins on the surface of enamel), plus it can reduce inflammation. Then your saliva naturally washes the stains away, resulting in healthier and whiter teeth. Other foods that contain bromelain are papaya and oranges.

Strawberries contain an enzyme called malic acid. This is another enzyme that can naturally whiten your teeth by acting as a natural astringent to remove surface discoloration, or acts as a bleaching agent. Malic acid is essential in dissolving superficial stains on the surface of teeth and increases saliva production. Another food item that contains malic acid is apples.

Dairy, such as yogurt and cheese, is a great way to naturally whiten your smile as it causes your mouth to produce excess saliva and contains lactic acid. The extra saliva helps to break down enamel stains while the lactic acid can naturally whiten your teeth by helping to dissolve those surface teeth stains.

Other foods that increase saliva production are broccoli, carrots, celery, and cauliflower. They’re difficult to chew, so as you grind them up, the veggies strip superficial stains from the surface of your teeth. And the longer you chew the more saliva the mouth produces, which helps to break down stains.

Seeds and nuts can work as exfoliants for your teeth. Their abrasive texture can actually strip stains from your enamel, buffing away discoloration and whitening the surface of teeth. Good ones to naturally whiten your teeth are sunflower seeds, almonds, walnuts, and cashews. Another food item that is a good exfoliator is apples.

Water can help prevent stains from forming on your teeth. Simply swish a mouthful around after eating or drinking pigment-rich foods and beverages to help keep your smile whiter. Then swallow, just like saliva it will naturally wash the stains away. For best results drink flat, or still, water, do not consume sparkling, or bubbly, water which will increase the chances of tooth surface erosion.

Shiitake Mushrooms contain lentinan, which is a type of sugar that does not promote tooth decay. Lentinan naturally prevents plaque-building bacteria from building up in your mouth, thus making it more difficult for stains to “stick” to your teeth. Other foods that contain lentinan are garlic and broccoli sprouts.

Onions contain sulfur compounds called thiosulfinates which is great at reducing the production of plaque. This compound can naturally keep plaque from forming on and in between your teeth. Eating raw onions releases this bacteria-reducing compound, eating cooked onions won’t help to naturally whiten your teeth.
